Dani Paquin

Designer Dani Paquin founded Agapantha jewelry on a dusty road
somewhere in the United States sometime in 2004. She wishes she
could be more specific, but she was out touring the country with her
guitar and she just can't be sure. Back in Brooklyn, between tours
she worked assembling jewelry for other designers until the moment
came when knew she had to bring her own designs to life. And so
Agapantha was born and an important artistic shift was made. No
longer would she tour the world with her music, but instead, with trays
filled with her hand-made semi-precious and repurposed vintage
jewelry (see image above).
Fast forward to the present...Agapantha is carried in dozens
of boutiques nationwide and is growing by the minute. Oprah, Lucky,
Daily Candy and many more have hopped on board. Agapantha
has grown to include a line of one-of-a-kind vintage pieces and fine
jewelry. All of the jewelry is still lovingly made by hand. Oh, and the
name Agapantha you ask? It was the first flower Dani's mom and
grandma taught her how to say. She pays homage to them and
all the important women in her life by naming each collection after
someone special. All you have to do is put a piece on, and whether
it’s named after you or not, you’ll feel special too!

James Wimberg first picked up a camera at age 16 in picturesque Old Lyme, Connecticut. He has been in love with taking pictures ever since. Nature and the environment around him were his first subjects. After graduating with a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts, James relocated to the Los Angeles area.
Jim has had a successful twenty-five year career as a commercial photographer working with a wide variety of clients. In recent years, he has again focused on nature as the primary subject of his personal work. The specific themes he is currently exploring include; botanical studies, still life, water forms and macro-landscape.
It is evident in his new body of personal work that Jim’s love of nature’s design has been a driving passion. “Professionally I love what I do, however I feel a personal drive to explore form and design in nature. One type of photography satisfies my logistical needs, the other satisfies my soul.”
Jim continues to shoot commercial jobs as well as his fine art series. He resides with his wife and two young sons in Torrance, California. |

Artist Statement
I enjoy exploring relationships of design, form and texture in an intimate scale. My use of interesting light, organic subject matter and sensuous forms aspires to be sensitive, expressive and easily accessible.
My recent series on botanical studies comes from a love of nature’s beautiful design. The subjects are photographed close-up, which breaks them down into basic forms. This technique also reveals details of a world most of us never notice. The beautiful textures going in and out of focus create a gentle rhythm and depth, celebrating nature’s true beauty.
When photographing still life, I try to have a more conceptual approach. Most of my still life projects are done in the studio, where I have total control of the lighting. The concerns for form, texture and tension are still there, but with more focus on dramatic lighting.
The TypeNude series attempts to create a visual dynamic between the curves of the body and abstracted type. I have a fascination with typeface designs and the use of type. In this series, the abstracted type was created using multiple exposures over the image of the nude. The result of layering images in this way, suggests the look of a cubist piece. |
